Skiing at Grand Targhee

I got an unexpected paycheck for doing the Dirtbag Diaries piece. I briefly considered using it to buy myself a down coat, but Fitz's note about taking the kids skiing guilted me into using it for the family ;) The Idaho ski areas have a passport program that allows 5th graders to ski free 3 times at each area. Turns out it works similar to the Pizza Hut book reading scam where you end up buying $30 worth of pizza for the family to get the free kid's meal. For the final day of the kids' long Christmas break we spent the day skiing in the fog. Actually, it was a great day with a foot of fresh powder, no lift lines, and beautiful icy trees. We avoided major injury, even with a few spectacular crashes (me). Abby says she experienced the freakiest run of her life - powder over crusted snow. Seth says skiing is all about powder and jumps. Jennie and Hannah drowned the pain of being left home with Leatherby's ice cream, making the skiers jealous.
