So how was your Halloween?
Ours was fabulous…great…one of the best ever! Let me tell you a little about it.
Some years I make costumes, some years I don’t. It just depends on what the kids want to be, what’s in the costume box and what’s happening in life. This year I made costumes for the four oldest kids. I took a sewing class during October which really helped fuel my motivation. Abby was Peter Pan; Hannah became Tinkerbell; Seth chose ninja; Grace got stuck with baby snowman (pulled out of the costume box). Best of all, Caleb was a vending machine.
I usually enjoy snow at any time of year, but when I woke up to snow on Friday morning I must admit I was not too pleased. We have trick or treated in the snow. I require their costumes to be warm, even to fit a coat underneath, but it’s just no fun. Amazingly, after a cold breezy Friday, Saturday dawned sunny and relatively warm.
Family came to see the kids in all their splendor. It always happens that at about 3 in the afternoon I think everything is going to be under control; and by 5 I’m in a mad dash trying to get everyone fed, dressed, pictures taken, and out the door. By 6:30, Andrea and I were taking the younger three with Abby and Caleb off with friends. It was so warm Hannah wore gloves but I mostly carried them. We walked their legs off! I was amazed how much farther Hannah could go. I actually enjoy trick or treating and like the kids to hit as many houses as they can stand. Mostly because I worked so hard on the costume I want somebody to see it!
We ended the night, the kids watching a movie with Andrea while Steve and I ran over to our friends for caramel apples and talking. It was the perfect mix of friends, family, and fun….and candy. OK we might have a bit too much candy. (Caleb won that contest, too)

Super cute costumes! You are such a good mom.
I LOVE the vending machine. Very creative Jennie! I'll have to remember that one too.
I love the great sewing you've done. I missed seeing Peter Pan, though! I bet it was adorable as well!
