Run Bohrer Run

This summer Steve and I have spent alot of time running and thinking about running and talking about running. We have tried to encourage the kids to try running as well. Sometimes it's been great...sometimes it hasn't. August turned into a big running event for the whole family. Abby ran in her first cross country meet, the "Mud Run." It is self explanitory, I know. It's a fun run put on for the cross country teams. Some come to run it as a race but most use it as a workout. For Abby, it was her introduction to competitive running, mixed with a little dirt. The best part is that when she finished she agreed to keep coming to cross country. I volunteered to be one of the parents running practice, and it has already been a great experience.

Hours before Abby's run, Steve came home from his morning run at the park. He announced the Pediatric Center was setting up for their race in the park and he wanted all the kids to go. This is a great race. The center opens it up to all kids for free. They give them free shirts and goodies and a medal.

The length is long enough to be a challenge but not so long that they are discouraged. Hannah ran about 1/2 mile. Caleb and Seth ran about 1 1/2 miles.

I was proud of all the kids because they all had a great attitude and loved the race.

The week before I capped off my summer training by running the Mesa Falls Half Marathon. My goals were to (1)run all the hills and (2) enjoy the run. I almost reached both. It was a warm day, fifteen degrees warmer that it had ever been at the start. I felt really good and enjoyed the course...until the last mile. No, that not true it was the last half mile. I just lost all steam. Thankfully, a nice couple caught me and encouraged me to pick up the pace to the end. I'm so thankful for kind strangers. It was interesting to have heat be a problem because the week before that...

Steve had to battle rain and cold weather during his race, El Vaquero Loco 25K. That's 15 miles of brutal up and down, all on trails. We camped at the finish line and the kids had a great time throwing rocks in the lake while we waited. Steve had a great race and shaved 6 minutes off his previous time on this course.
In the end, none of us were first, but none of us were last. And a good time was had by all.
